The James J. Hill Reference Library reimagined its’ charitable purpose and activities in 2020, guided by an order of the Ramsey County District Court, allowing the Library to transition away from providing a free reference library to into a grant-making foundation. The Mary T. and James J. Hill Library Foundation will have with overarching charitable mission to continue to spur and support entrepreneurship in Saint Paul, MN. 

In 2020, the James J. Hill Center made grants to charitable organizations to spur entrepreneurship and support new American entrepreneurs in Saint Paul, MN. The first was in support of the Co.Starters program with additional funds directed to the “We Love Saint Paul” fund after the civil unrest in 2020.  Stay tuned as the organization announces its’ grant parameters later in 2021.
